Automated HIS for Nurses

Electronic Chart System is a system that has many formats which is usually used by physician, nurses, ward clerk, and other healthcare member of a team to communicate other hospital departments, records patients information, and also to write orders. This actually replaces paper-based records of the patients. It has 4 examples that includes the following:
a.) Tablets- ECS often comes from a tablet. It is a touchscreen and has a colored LCD display but it has no external drives, hard disk, or any free data port. Since it is very mobile it can help nurses a lot especially when processing information beside the patient. The screen of a tablet is very tough to avoid breakage.
b.) Desktop- This is usually used in the Philippine Hospitals and often times it can be seen in the nurses station of every ward to help them in their documentations
c.) Computers on Wheels- COW is a tall stand with small caster wheels. You can pull it anywhere or even at point of care. It has an advantage over a tablet in that nurses hands are made free allowing them to manage their patient manually.
d.) Wall-mounted computer system- are alternative formats where a laptop is secured in a box embedded in the wall of the patient room.
Another one is the Electronic Monitoring system, the monitoring devices are usually hooked at the patients body. This can help nurses monitor immediately the vital signs, cardiac, respiration, and other physiologic activities of the patient systems. We have also an Automated Medication Administration, this technology helps nurses by reducing medication errors which is very common nowadays. The nurses uses the PDA which can identify patients information. It can also help scans medication to ensure that the nurse hasn't inadvertently pick the wrong medication in the patients drawer or received the wrong medication from the Pharmacy.

Nursing Informatics for Nursing Students

The advent of technology have streamlined the process of researching information ad delivering care based on it used. But the fundamentals of focusing on how content is to be used and the task in which the nurse is engaged has not changed. It is important to this rapidly growing environment that information providers, Healthcare facilities, and academic institutions continue to fully understand why information is required, and how it is accessed, managed, and consumed by nurses, nursing students, and educators.
For Nursing students, this subject is very important in order for them to know the basic and fundamentals of computers which is now widely used in Hospital setting that is why the Commission on Higher Education recommended to all deans of the College of Nursing to have this subject in the curriculum. It can also help students in their future careers by having them aware or for them to avoid stress and errors in documenting patients records. Nursing students can benefit from this because it is now very important to hire nurses who are computer literate. It can also lessen the time consumption especially nurses who have heavy work load.

Reaction to the Movie: Pirates of Silicon Valley.

Recently we have watched a movie entitled "Pirates of the silicon Valley". The movie shown was actually a story and the history of how the Apple computer and Microsoft was created. It showed a great rivalry between the two founders which then created a big twist to the story. It was way back on 70's when Steve Job with his friends tried to test something to create a personal computer. They have tested for so long until they have got it right. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak actually got the idea on a xerox machine and they were able to make a concept on how to create a computer.
The development was so fast and in that time there was a Computer fair on San Francisco, that was the time when Bill Gates introduced himself to Steve Jobs but Jobs just snub him. The movie also showed that Steve Jobs have a girlfriend and later bear a child. On the later part of the movie it was indicated there that John Scully fired Steve Jobs but then he rejoined again as an ally. However, Microsoft now owns a part of the Apple. The story was nice and i got a lesson from it that includes: striving hard, be motivated in everything you'll do, teamwork, and lastly is friendship which forms a big importance to the story and because of it they have formed a new life and they have achieved success.

Internet Services in Nursing Field

The usefulness of internet in Medical field is now very common. Nurses can reduce stress and anxiety including problems because of internet usage which is widely used. There are different internet services which can help Nurses and other Healthcare team in terms of communication, information services, and file transfer services. In order to have fast communication in a medical setting internet is a must which you can use your email or chat to your colleagues. Videoconferencing can also help like when having a conference or seminars.
Other services which Nurses can get in an Internet is when getting an information on something very important. For that, Nurses can use the WWW or world-wide web in searching important information or knowledge, this will also help nurses update themselves to the latest health issues or other issues. Aside from the world-wide web Nurses can use Telnet, this are a web sites that allows you to log in to a computer at another site to access its information. Last is the file transfer services which helps nurses obtain files from other sites and bring or save them to their computer and this process is called downloading. Nurses can also use the process known as uploading in which they can send files or upload files to remote computers.

Network System in Nursing Field

Network system in Medical field helps out the most, especially nurses who works in every departments which they are usually facing the most difficult job in a Medical setting and because of Network system Nurses can work and interact within the group which they can easily pass and share information immediately that can reduce stress and anxiety to other Health workers. Their will be a good collaboration between the other healthcare team with such a technology like this, one can add documentation datums to finish work effortlessly.
         There are different types of Network topology which can help Medical settings reduce workload, this includes the following;
a.) Bus Topology- This is a network setup wherein each of the computers and Network devices are connected to a single cable, also the advantage of this is that  its structure is inexpensive. However, if the network cable breaks, the entire network goes down.
b.) Star topology- This can really help Nurses since it is easy to setup and it is very common network setup where each of the devices and computer on a network connect t a central hub but the big disadvantage to this is that when the central hub fails, all other devices and computers connected to that hub would be disconnected.
c.) Tree Topology-  This is also similar to Bus topology, it connects multiple star networks to other star networks. The disadvantage to this is that if the cable between each of the star topology networks failed, those networks would be unable to communicate w/ each other but computer on the same topology can still be able to communicate.
d.) Mesh Topology- This type of Topology is not commonly use because it is expensive and difficult to use.
e.) Ring Topology- Today, ring topology is seldom used.

Automation saves Nurses

Automation or computerization in all Healthcare institutions has been useful and known to have positive and excellent outcomes which have been proven centuries ago. With technology in their side it would be easier to work without any hindrance. Computerization is always needed to all departments of a Hospital because of heavy workloads. Admission, Billing section, Laboratories, Pharmacy for instance, without Automation Health workers will double their efforts which will be stressful to them.
Now, including the other divisions of a Hospitals that includes: Nurses stations, Operating room, Delivery room, Emergency room, and etc. have been computerized in order for them to lessen time consumption especially if there's too much of patients admitted. Nurses can benefit from this especially nurses who are assigned at the Nurses Station which have plenty of paper works for documentation and gathering of datums. You can already put datums most especially the Vital signs and other important records or documentation. Nurses can perform their duty well and can render quality care to their patient which they can also have more time to relax . Communication well also be easy with powerful network systems and so it can be use to budget time  for better and error-free work.
