Electronic Chart System is a system that has many formats which is usually used by physician, nurses, ward clerk, and other healthcare member of a team to communicate other hospital departments, records patients information, and also to write orders. This actually replaces paper-based records of the patients. It has 4 examples that includes the following:
a.) Tablets- ECS often comes from a tablet. It is a touchscreen and has a colored LCD display but it has no external drives, hard disk, or any free data port. Since it is very mobile it can help nurses a lot especially when processing information beside the patient. The screen of a tablet is very tough to avoid breakage.
b.) Desktop- This is usually used in the Philippine Hospitals and often times it can be seen in the nurses station of every ward to help them in their documentations
c.) Computers on Wheels- COW is a tall stand with small caster wheels. You can pull it anywhere or even at point of care. It has an advantage over a tablet in that nurses hands are made free allowing them to manage their patient manually.
d.) Wall-mounted computer system- are alternative formats where a laptop is secured in a box embedded in the wall of the patient room.
Another one is the Electronic Monitoring system, the monitoring devices are usually hooked at the patients body. This can help nurses monitor immediately the vital signs, cardiac, respiration, and other physiologic activities of the patient systems. We have also an Automated Medication Administration, this technology helps nurses by reducing medication errors which is very common nowadays. The nurses uses the PDA which can identify patients information. It can also help scans medication to ensure that the nurse hasn't inadvertently pick the wrong medication in the patients drawer or received the wrong medication from the Pharmacy.
